But, some bad actors have begun creating deepfake audio and video to spread false news. Some attackers are also creating malicious campaigns using this technology.

Deepfake technology is when artificial images and sounds combine with a machine-learning algorithm. This technology is like consumer photo and editing software. Deepfake technology is becoming more accessible and convincing. Because of this, the potential consequences are concerning.
Existing deepfake apps include FaceApp, FaceSwap, and Zao. Some of these apps come with disclaimers and claim to be for entertainment purposes only.
Bad actors use this content to further illegal activities. Deepfake communities also exist on the Dark Web. Malicious actors can offer DaaS (deepfakes as a service) or buy and sell content.
Deepfake audio is a primary concern for people. Because audio lacks visual cues, it can be more dangerous than deepfake video. Deepfake audio attacks have already happened. CEOs of large firms have transferred large sums of money after an attack. Bad actors are using deepfake audio for financial gain.
